Our mission at Tiyamike Sewing is to demonstrate the love of God through providing practical help in the form of free sewing classes. Our desire is to help women and girls in desperate need who have exhausted all options and need to know that God loves and cares for them.
Conditions of the Tiyamike Sewing Program
- Classes are offered free of charge to women and girls who are in the most desperate need
- Students are chosen prayerfully based on level of their need. Applicants will be interviewed in person prior to acceptance.
- Students are expected to commit to attending class two mornings a week for nine months (with breaks)
- Classes are conducted in Chichewa and begin with a Bible reading and prayer
- Our Tiyamike Sewing school minibus will pick up/drop off students at an agreed central location. However, it is the student's responsibility to provide their own transport to and from the pick up/drop off point.
- Students can bring small children to class. Fold up baby cots and baby toys are available.
- Students will be given small amounts of sewing work during the course of their learning and receive payment, of which part will be kept and put towards their sewing machine which they will receive on Graduation Day at the end of the nine-month program.
